The evangelist continued: “He’ll stop that lawsuit. … Greatness will be released in your job and finances and ministry and marriage even if you don’t have the resources or have two nickels to your name or don’t have a man to support you! Go to that phone and pledge $71.21 a month, and I prophesy to you that God will increase your greatness! Give now!”
This is just another TV evangelist on air making a strong statement of God’s blessings if they give to the ministry. On Christianity Today, recent poll of 1700+ people voted 71% on Prosperity Gospel as Heresy. Indeed so, where we saw so many preachers, evangelists, apostles, prophets, miracle healer etc falling into this heretical patterns of greed.
In the days to come, Apostle Paul’s warning to young Timothy is as relevant today as it is 2000 years ago
“The Spirit clearly says that in later times, some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.” 1 Tim 4:1-2,
“If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain! But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” 1 Tim 6:3-10.
I wonder how many of us listened to preachings that so many super-preachers taught for the sake of great financial greed, in hope to appear godly among people, they use the name of Christ to cover up the ugliness of their greed. Like the warnings to the Church in Laodicea, who boast of their great wealth and in need of nothing, God’s sober warning to them, repent, and come back and see the truth of the reality that they are naked, poor, pitiful, and wretched! Wealth is but a responsibility, God wants us to put Him first, not wealth.
