Mars Hill Church

22 01 2009

marshillchurchRecently I was introduced to Mars Hill Church pastored by Pastor Mark Driscoll at the Tuesday Group.

The Message “Dating” on the Religion Saves series has been very good, and when I got home, i went through their sermons on Emerging Church, which i totally love the sermons and has been a great deal of encouragement! I would recommend anyone wanting good sermons and down to earth, Jesus loving, and totally funny yet frank pastor, go to Mars Hill Church Website

The Anointed Life

17 01 2009

I am reading this book by Charles Spurgeon – The anointed life, which is a wonderful book. At first i thought it was another devotion book like Morning and Evening but it is different, it is a book that outlines Christianity in a manner that’s approachable. Not that i have finished the book to comment on it but his preface is one that has already blessed my heart so much.

This book is another treasure that God has placed in my life recently to strengthen, to empower, and more importantly to re-assure my faith, re-affirming His love for me!

Why the church must twitter?

15 01 2009

“I am confident – no matter what type of church you are leading, no matter what type of community you are ministering to, no matter how much you do or don’t like technology – this E-Book will lead to a conversation that needs to be had.”

Terry Storch –

I wonder should the Church be twittering? Twittering is one of the social media platform that’s gaining rapid popularity among netizens. The platform is so popular because it allows posting of short messages on a singular platform that allows followers to follow the updates to the moments in life.

It is a great marketing tool, of which i have been exploring as one of the main options in our social media marketing campaign. However for a church to employ this platform, it runs a greater risk of packaging our faith in a marketing aspects. Question remains, how can we remain relevant to this world without becoming the world? Christianity today seeks relevancy not just in its secular appeal such as sanctuary or a quasi-yoga’istic approach to life, but it is bigger than these, it seeks a spiritual revelation of our sinful nature and the Gospel of the good news in a Saviour revealed in the person Jesus. That He died for our sins and was buried but on the third day, He rose again, and ascended into the heavens and He will be back. It is a spiritual message that must dawn in the human spirit an absolute moral direction as a result of a regeneration of our spirit.

Then the question would make more sense in whether the Church must twitter rather than Why the church should twitter.

Pursuit of Godliness

4 04 2008

Many years ago, I read a book of the above header “The Pursuit of Godliness” from the Navigator’s press. It was a book i did not really get excited about especially when the true value of the topic escaped my attention.

I have recently written a short but half completed (My apologies) on Holiness is in our mindset. Very true, i have often wonder and i still do, why Christians are struggling in our Christian life and walk? Why am i struggling with Sins when we by our faith in Christ, is justified, and Christ’s righteousness is imputed on me? It is now, i believe to be the most single important topic that’s strangely not preached as much as i would love to in the churches today.

I stopped and started reading this article on Christianity Today titled “Open-Handed Gospel”  and it cause me to ponder, how big our God really is, and yet, when we try to measure God’s generosity in the gift of Salvation, do we run the risk of compromising on the boundary and definition of Christian salvation? By saying this, i mean, is “We are justified by Faith alone” enough for Salvation?

Why Christians are struggling with Sin is that they have not grasped the fundamental principles of the role of Sin in our lives and that the act of salvation and born again is a miracle which should transform us and our mindset. Yet i must confess, there are times it seems i am not changed! The scriptures taught plainly that there are two natures in which we must decide – to live according to the flesh or according to the Spirit. That’s the key in our daily victories against Sin or rather i must be more specific on the BONDAGES that come from Sin. Let me reiterate, we are not immune to Sinning, until we are called back to heaven through the quickening of a new body…. but till then, we do sin occasionally, but the difference being, we are no longer under the Laws of Sin, because of what Christ has done. The only responsibility is that we must confess our sins and through the act of sanctification, which started at the point of our salvation, God works within us through the Power of the Holy Spirit to change us from within. That’s the message of hope for the lost! That we are transformed from within by the Power of the Holy Spirit, (NOT ourselves, pardon this for i do not support New Age notion of finding goodness in ourselves).

Rich library of resources

17 10 2007

I’ve made an amazing discovery of a rich library of resources on Christian text – theological, biblical exegesis and criticism etc from Google Books. Some of the books, you can download the entire book in PDF! Got a few good books and some very old, dated to 1850s!
