One of the writings that has influenced me so, other than the Bible, Mere Christianity, Evidences that demand a verdict and the Pursuit of God, is the book written by Jonathan Edwards “Sinner in the hands of an angry God”.
In today’s church, where message of unbridled love and grace is preached without a proper perspective according to the entire counsel of the Scriptures, it is not surprising that in place of the fear of God that the Church has generally lost its reverence for holiness as the centrality where the gospel should lead each believers to. The Church has lost its saltiness and i, the ultimate culprit of such stays convicted. Too often has the church not do what they preach. Once again the scriptures and of course Mercy have both been an internal compass of the spiritual condition within me.
As i paused to take a check on where I am going, i am nowhere the condition and place which i would very much wanted to be, instead i am spiritually washout, lacking the passion and why the cold hard heart that i constantly find sporadic spills of wickedness, and truly perhaps the greatest weapon against the Atheism in me, is the Word of God. Not just by reading the Word of God, but doing it. Anyone who hears the Word of God and not put into practise is but a fool.
I had read and had commented by readers on the gospel of grace, on prosperity for the christian that we are meant to rule. Hmph. Ahem. Sure, i would love to rule, perhaps has so much money that i can give some to those who needed it, go for a mission trip, and all those plans i can come up with thinking that how much i can do for God. “See God, you make the right choice to bless me with a million dollars!” and it goes on and on until i really think it is me!
When we are meant to rule, God actually wants me to serve, and be the LAST. Now that goes against our natural mind, naturally to rule, means be the head of the queue, be the best, be the richest, be the most talented etc. No, it simply calls for a heart of a servant. Jesus being God Himself, emptied Himself on the cross for us sinners, willing to be the lowest to wash the feet of the disciples! Now shouldn’t we put on the humility of Christ and serve each other, out of the motive to exalt each other better than ourselves? If that’s our attitude, then the question of being blessed with lots of money, or lots of talents, wouldn’t be a question whether prosperity is right or wrong.
The real question is not about whether being rich is bad or good, it is about the attitude of our heart, how we handle wealth reflects the condition of our heart – like a mirror. What keep our heart from exalting ourselves better than we ought to is, simply the fear of the Lord. The book “Sinner in the hands of an angry God” is a call to the fear of the Lord, that it is His wondrous Grace and Great mercy that we are not shallowed by the mouth of hell, that even Christians (Note Ananias in the book of Acts) that we begin to abuse such Grace and mercy in today’s age. The Age of Grace will pass, when the Day of the Lord arrives, that God will call His beloved bride back so His Wrath will be poured out against the World whose wickedness sets itself against the Almighty God.
